Eight. Hundred. Forty. Horsepower. 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds. Hits the 1/4 mile in just 9.65 seconds at more than 140 mph. Fully stock! This beast was born with one purpose: to murder all of its opponents on the drag strip.
It’s finally here. Dodge has been teasing the Demon for a long time now making us car nuts go absolutely bonkers waiting for the reveal. How much power will it make? That’s the question I was asking for a couple months, until yesterday. When the SRT Hellcat was revealed back in 2015 I was utterly amazed that a stock American muscle car had more horsepower than Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Now the Demon shatters the competition with 850 horses. How does that sound to a muscle car fanatic? Insane.
Do you want to know what the most ridiculous thing about the Demon is? It can compete with a Porsche 918 Spyder in the 1/4 mile. Yeah, you read that right. A car that costs about one-tenth the price can compete with a Porsche 918! A 918 can hit the 1/4 mile in 9.8 seconds at about 148.5 mph. According to Dodge, the Demon hits the 1/4 mile in 9.65 seconds at more than 140 mph. Wow.
The 918’s 0-60 mph time is 2.2 seconds while the Demon’s is a tenth of a second slower at 2.3 seconds. If only I could get my hands on a Demon and a 918 Spyder and have a day at the track with the two. Someone race them, please.
This is what amazes me:
- Dodge Demon (Approx. $85,000): 840 horsepower
- Lamborghini Aventador ($400,000): 691-740 horsepower
- Pagani Huayra ($1,600,000): 720 horsepower
- McLaren 650s ($265,500): 651 horsepower
- Nissan GT-R ($109,000): 565-600 horsepower
- Ferrari 458 Italia ($270,000): 570 horsepower
Now that’s a bang for your buck if we’re talking horsepower.
